A State Funeral Service to honour the life of Russell Goldfield Jack AM雷陽名 will be held at 11.00am on Saturday, 29 August, at Ulumbarra Theatre in Bendigo.
Everyone is invited to attend this important event.
Please note that the Museum, Gardens and Temple will be closed on Saturday 29 August as a mark of respect to our Founder and Patron.

In lieu of flowers, and at the request of Russell’s family, memorial donations may be made to the Golden Dragon Museum in Bendigo. Donations can either be made via direct debit or over the counter at the Museum.

Donations of $2.00 are tax deductible. Donations made at the Museum will be provided with a receipt at that time. What to Wear – State Funeral of Russell Jack AM

For those attending the State Funeral of Russell Goldfield Jack AM (Louey Yeung Man), we have had a number of questions about appropriate clothing.
As Dad’s funeral will incorporate traditions from our Cantonese Chinese Australian heritage, our family would like to share the following guidance.
The immediate family will be wearing white, the traditional Chinese colour of mourning.
For extended family, friends, community members, and members of the public, we suggest black, grey, navy or other subdued and muted colours. Formal mourning attire is welcome, but there is no need to dress entirely in black.
We also know that many people have asked about wearing red, because of Dad’s lifelong association with Bendigo’s Chinese community, its dragons, lions, and festivals.
In Chinese culture, red is traditionally an auspicious colour associated with happiness, good fortune and celebration, so it is not normally worn as the principal colour at a funeral.
However, Dad lived a long and remarkable life of 91 years, and his farewell will inevitably reflect both mourning and gratitude for a life well lived.
If you would like to acknowledge that part of Dad’s life, a small splash or touch of red would be very appropriate – perhaps a red tie, scarf, brooch, pocket square, ribbon, or other small detail – rather than an entirely red outfit.
Above all, please do not feel anxious about getting it exactly right. Your presence is what matters most to our family.
Private viewing
The private viewing period finishes on Monday 24 August, 5.00 – 6.00pm at William Farmer Funeral Direcots, 151 McCrae Street, Bendigo.
The family is following the Canonese tradition of an open coffin, which allows family and frineds to view the decesased and say their final goodbyes.
